One device seen by several tools
Your laptops are often in more than one tool: Microsoft Intune, your security tool and your management tool. ECP brings them together into one row per device, so your figures are right and a rule can combine facts from different tools.

How we recognise the same device
- Serial number. The same serial number is the same device. Fake numbers such as "To Be Filled By O.E.M.", "Default string", "0" or all zeros do not count.
- Microsoft Entra device id. When there is no serial number.
- Device name without domain. "LAPTOP-07.company.local" and "laptop-07" are the same name. Such a row gets the label merged on name: check that it is right.
We never merge rows of one and the same tool: that tool already knows them as separate devices. Two devices from two tools with the same name but a different serial number stay two rows, and so do "web01.client-a.be" and "web01.client-b.be". We recognise accounts by their e-mail address. Applications, suppliers, networks and workplaces do not change.
What you see on a device
Open a device in the Inventory. At the top is Seen by: which tools report the device, what each one calls it and what it reports. In the list, such a device has the label merged.
Nothing to do unless it is wrong.
When the tools disagree
When two tools say different things, you see it in a yellow box, with what each tool says and which value we use. We follow the tool that owns that field:
- Ownership, category and compliance: Microsoft 365 (Intune).
- Role or device type: first your security or management tool (SentinelOne, NinjaOne, Bitdefender, Check Point, Sophos), then Microsoft 365.
- Site: NinjaOne, then SentinelOne, then Bitdefender.
- Operating system: the tool that synced last.
- Account kind and administrator: Microsoft 365, then Google Workspace.
What you fill in yourself with Edit always wins. The With a difference tab in the list shows every device where tools disagree.
Fixing a mistake
- Does not belong here: next to a tool on the device page. It becomes two separate rows again.
- Merge: at the bottom of the device page, or tick two rows in the list and click Merge.
We ask for a reason every time. Your auditor reads it. Under Decided by people you see who did it, when and why, with Undo. The data in your tools never changes. Owners, administrators and members may do this. People who may only view, or who see only part of the organisation, may not.
Your figures
Since 13 October 2026, a device that several tools see counts once. Your number of devices may go down as a result, and a control may get a different verdict. A rule such as "company devices that are laptops, in Ghent" can now combine ownership from Intune, the role from SentinelOne and the location from NinjaOne on one device.
